Artifact Donation FAQ
-
Donation of an item does not guarantee display. Due to the nature of our building, only a small percentage of our items are on display at any given time. While our exhibits are rotated throughout the year, the majority of our collection is held in our climate-controlled storage facility to ensure preservation.
-
Donation offers will be evaluated for historical significance and value. Please fill out the Artifact Donation Form below, this will help museum staff determine if your item will be accepted into our collection.
We cannot guarantee a timeline for object acceptance. We consider each offer in turn and strive to keep the process as smooth and straightforward as possible.

The Museum of the Highwood determines the “Highwood Region” as the towns/villages/hamlets of Aldersyde, Diamond Valley, Blackie, Brant, Cayley, De Winton, Herronton, High River, Longview, Mazeppa, Millarville, Mossleigh, Nanton.
Items related to Okotoks, Vulcan, Stavely, Millarville or Claresholm will be directed to their corresponding museums/historical societies.

The Museum is always grateful to receive photographs, negatives, and archival material relating to the Highwood.
Currently the Museum is NOT accepting: large furniture or large household objects (i.e. sofas, pianos, dining room sets, bedroom sets, sewing machines, etc.).
-
The Museum has both a permanent and a support collection.
Permanent Collection: The primary intention of the Permanent Collection is to preserve objects in perpetuity for display or other interpretive use. This could include artifacts and archival materials.
Support Collection: Objects in the Support Collection are items that have been designated for use in programs, education, demonstrations, reference, research, and as support materials for exhibits. These objects may be handled by the public. The museum will preserve the items for as long as feasible, but they may ultimately become expendable.
